TrailTalk
LiveA social network for outdoor enthusiasts: hunters, anglers, campers, hikers, and explorers.

Problem
Outdoor athletes don't fit general-purpose social apps. They wanted feeds tuned to trail conditions, hunting reports, and tight local communities.
Solution
A full social platform with three feed modes, HLS video, real-time messaging, groups, events, contests, and network-aware loading that adapts to the connection you actually have on the trail.
Key features
- Following, Discover, and Trending feeds with infinite scroll
- Posts with up to 10 images or a 500 MB video, hashtags, and links
- Vertical short-video Reels with prefetching
- Groups with roles, join requests, pinned posts; events with RSVP
- Hashtag-entry contests with winner selection
- 1:1 and group chat over WebSockets
- Push and in-app notifications with per-type preferences
- Block, report, private accounts, follow requests
- Creator analytics dashboard: views, unique viewers, engagement rate, top posts
- Badges, saved posts, search, hashtag pages, deep links to share pages
Engineering highlights
The parts that separate a product from a template.
Streaming video-upload proxy
Uploads stream through the API instead of buffering, cutting memory for 100 concurrent uploads from about 15 GB to about 5 GB.
Network-adaptive feed
Page size and prefetch are tuned per connection tier, with an offline cache for an instant cold start at the trailhead.
Batched analytics view tracking
Views count only after a visibility threshold and dwell time, with cooldown and source attribution, then ship in batches.
Trending as a Postgres function
The ranking formula runs in the database with a JavaScript fallback, so the feed stays consistent across clients.
End-to-end universal links
AASA and assetlinks configured with share landing pages, so any post link opens the app or a real page.
